Annie Stanton of Bellwood, IL. was born on January 12, 1953, in Panola Alabama to the late Clate and Annie Stanton. Annie grew up in Salem and in Panola with her 9 sisters & 3 brothers. Annie grew up helping support her family working as a sharecropper in her youth. Annie attended York HS and graduated in 1972. After her graduation, Annie, like so many others did during the 70's, made her way up north to Chicago. She worked as a sales clerk & cashier at a variety of places but settled in at Banker's Life & Casualty as a licensed agent where she retired in 2020, after almost 40 years. Annie was a member of Salem A.M.E Zion church as a youth, and a member of Mount Tabernacle Church in Chicago as an adult. Annie peacefully departed this life on May 25, 2026.
Annie was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend whose warmth and kindness touched everyone she came across. Annie was a walking library, bridging the younger generations to our "down south" roots. She loved telling her children stories of the old days, keeping them grounded, helping them remember where they came from, and showing them what it took to get to where they were.
Annie dedicated her life to her family and found her greatest joy in spending time with her children, grandchildren, and loved ones. She especially cherished the special bond she shared with her beloved granddaughter and best friend, Kay. Whether gathered around the kitchen table or enjoying family celebrations, Annie's love was always present through her cooking, laughter, and caring spirit.
Annie was also devoted to her loving husband, Frank Brown, with whom she shared many cherished years filled with love, companionship, and treasured memories.
Annie was preceded in death by her parents, Clate and Annie Stanton; brothers, Jerry, Zoantha, and Curtis Stanton; and sisters, Rosie Lee Madison, Bessie Oliver, Vinnie Huston, and Ethel Hickmon.
Left to honor and cherish her memory are her children: Demetrius Stanton Sr (LaJuana), Dejuan Stanton (Kenisha), Shalana Brown, and Frank Brown ]r.; her treasured grandchildren: Demetrius Stanton Jr, Neleah Stanton, Kaidence Coe, and Khassidy McClain; great-grandson Levi Stanton, 5 sisters; Pearlie Mae Speight (Alabama), Minnie Oliver (Alabama), Mary Hickmon (South Carolina), Virginia Stanton (Chicago), & Rebecca Tyner (Chicago), extended family, and the many friends whose lives were blessed by her presence.
Annie will be remembered for her loving heart, strong spirit, and the comfort she brought to those around her. Her legacy of love, family, and devotion will live on through all who knew and loved her.
Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
