Beverly Grant

Beverly Victoria Woodard Grant was born on Friday, February 28, 1958, in Kosciusko, Mississippi, to her loving parents, Billie Hallum and Ethel Lee Woodard. She was raised in a family where love, faith, and the importance of family were cherished values.

Her father, Billie Hallum; her mother, Ethel Lee Woodard; her husband, Alexander Grant; and her grandson, Romeo I. Grant, preceded her in death.

Beverly, affectionately known as "Bev" to many, was loved by so many. Her presence touched the lives of family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Though life brought its share of challenges, caring for her daughter, Latoria, affectionately known as "Miss Boo," and being a constant presence in her life gave Beverly one of the greatest joys in this world. She poured love, wisdom, and cherished values into her family.

Beverly began her middle school education at Willa Cather Grammar School and later attended Lucy Flower High School, where she proudly completed her education. Beverly's strong work ethic came as no surprise. She worked as a school bus driver for Sunrise Transportation, where she faithfully served for many years before retiring. Beverly had many things she enjoyed, but her hobbies were especially memorable. She could COOK! She also took pride in keeping a spotless home. And then there was BINGO!

Beverly had a special love for bingo. She enjoyed the excitement of the game, the laughter, the fellowship with friends, and—most of all—the winnings! Let's not forget about the card games. Beverly would sit down at that card table ready to play. She loved talking a little trash and making sure everybody knew that she wasn't there just to sit around and look pretty—with her beautiful long designer nails, the best outfits, and a freshly done hairstyle that was part of her signature look. During the card games, someone might call out, "Sweet Potato!" If you were there, you knew exactly what that meant!

Beverly's journey was filled with meaningful moments, treasured relationships, lasting memories, and experiences that became beautiful chapters in her story.

Beverly attended Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend D. A. Williams during her early years, where she was nurtured in faith and learned to love the Lord. In later years, Sunday mornings often found Beverly logging onto Facebook to watch her cousin, Apostle Jonathan "John John" Davis, deliver powerful messages and worship services. She loved her cousin dearly and promised that she would visit every chance she got to be in the service. Beverly loved her family deeply.

She would travel miles simply to spend time with the people she loved. She traveled with her family for the Fourth of July to visit her sisters and brother in Detroit, Michigan. That trip was truly a blessing and created memories that will be treasured forever. Beverly had a beautiful way of making people feel welcomed and loved. She treasured family gatherings, family reunions, and birthday celebrations-and she never came empty-handed! She would prepare a ten-course meal to make sure everyone was fed. That was Beverly: making sure everybody was comfortable, everybody was included, and nobody left hungry.

Her presence brought warmth and joy to the lives of many, and her love will continue to live on through the generations she leaves behind. Beverly answered God's call and peacefully transitioned from this earthly life into eternal rest.
