Cedric Vonell Hopson

May 30, 1962 — Sep 26, 2026

Chicago, IL

With hearts filled with love, gratitude to God, and cherished memories, we celebrate the life of Cedric Hopson, who departed this life on September 26, 2026, at the age of 64. Though his earthly journey has ended, the love he gave and the joy he shared will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

Cedric was born on May 30, 1962, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Willie and Mary Hopson. Raised on Chicago’s West Side, he developed a strong sense of community and a genuine love for people.

He attended Collins High School before continuing his education at Grambling State University in Louisiana. (HBCU)

Throughout his life, Cedric was a hardworking and resourceful man. His career included working for the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), driving trucks, and working in construction. These experiences reflected his determination, independence, and strong work ethic.

Cedric also knew how to enjoy life. Outgoing, quick-witted, and full of humor, he brought energy and warmth to every gathering. He loved children and animals. He also loved spending time with family and friends, sharing stories, and making the most of every occasion. If anyone needed him he was on his way with his SUPER POWERS, yes that’s right his cap not cape, cap on his head. You could depend on him being there. He was never lazy when it came to work. His ability to connect with people made him a memorable and cherished presence in the lives of many.

Cedric valued knowledge and spiritual growth. His favorite things to watch on television was Joel Osteen, and the news. He spoke four (4), different languages. He enjoyed reading and expanding his understanding of the world, while his relationship with God provided strength and guidance throughout his life.

Cedric’s legacy lives on through the people he loved and the lives he touched.

Cedric was preceded in death by his loving parents, Willie and Mary Hopson; his brothers, Ronald “Torrez” Hopson and Willie “Al” Lloyd; and his sister-in-law, Tawanna Hopson.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory his two beloved daughters, Kiara “Toy” Hopson and Brittany Hopson; and his five precious grandchildren, Amari, Ziani, Jiari, Jlani, and Zhire.

He also leaves behind his loving brothers, Terry “Chic” Hopson and Donald Waters; and his beloved sister, Valerie “Sanchez” OdumBurgin.

His memory will be treasured by his nephews, Nigel “Shea” (Lauren), Isaiah, Taytum, Elliot (Alyssa), Marcus Jr. “MJ,” Terry Jr. “TJ,” and Roman; his nieces, Jakari “Binky,” Shannon (Marcus), Shavonne, Shelby, Londyn, and Beighly.

Cedric also leaves behind a host of loving cousins, extended family members, lifelong friends, and countless others who were blessed to share in his life.

As we reflect on Cedric’s 64 years, we choose to celebrate the blessing of having known him: his humor, his love of a good time, his curiosity, and his faith.

Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing that love continues through family, friendship, and the stories we share.

Cedric, you lived with purpose and left behind a legacy that will never be duplicated nor forgotten.

We will miss your humor and the joy you brought to every gathering. Most of all, we will remain grateful for the blessing of having you in our lives.

May the Lord welcome you into His eternal peace. Rest in Heavenly Peace, Cedric V. Hopson.

Forever in our hearts. Forever loved.
