Daviyae Shotwell

March 21, 2008 — January 9, 2026

Daviyae Keimar Shotwell, affectionately known as "Diggy," "Duke," "Mr. Do Berry," and "D'Shiesty," was born on March 21, 2008, in Chicago, Illinois, to Latanya Denise Cobbins and Dwayne Shotwell.

He was christened under the leadership of Pastor Michael Wright at True Freedom church. Later, he attended New Life Covenant Church with his mother under the leadership of Pastor John Hannah.

Daviyae's first introduction to education was at Les Finch Learning Tree. After graduating, he moved on to Holy Family School, where he attended kindergarten through second grade. He then continued his academic journey at LaSalle Language Academy, where he studied French and graduated with honors. Daviyae went on to attend Noble Street College Prep High School, where he was a senior and eagerly looking forward to the many opportunities that lay ahead.

Daviyae was a fun-loving young man who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His presence was truly magnetic, and he was loved beyond measure by all who knew him. Exceptionally intelligent and athletic, Daviyae excelled both mentally and physically. He was a champion chess player, a member of the Hillside Youth Bowling League, and enjoyed ice hockey and baseball; however, basketball held a special place in his heart, where he was known as an avid and impressive three-point shooter.

Daviyae also developed a deep love for music and found great joy in rapping, using it as another way to express his creativity and spirit.

He will be fondly remembered for his many funny and unforgettable quotations, including "Make that two, please!" and "Man gone, you just talking!" At the age of 12, when Daviyae's special aunt, Cheresse Cobbins, became ill, he requested that she move in with the family. He lovingly stepped into the role of her personal chef, preparing special dishes just for her. With his signature humor, he proudly took on the nickname "Chef O So Nasty!", a title that brought smiles and laughter to everyone around him.

Known for his sharp style and love of fine cologne, Daviyae proudly carried the nickname "Mr. Smell Good." He was also known for his humor and playful habit of spending other people's money, which became one of the many ways he shared joy with family and friends.

Daviyae touched the hearts of so many with his sense of humor. Stubborn at times, yet always funny and deeply loving, his smile lit up every room he walked into. A natural jokester, he kept his family laughing and brought joy wherever he went. Daviyae was a devoted and wonderful uncle to his nephew, Chanzelor, and a true protector of all children. He had a special heart for children with differences, showing them patience, care, and genuine compassion.

On January 9, 2026, at 11:49 p.m., Daviyae transitioned from earth to eternity.

Daviyae will live on forever in our hearts. He leaves to cherish his loving mother, LaTanya Denise Cobbins; his loving father, Dwayne Shotwell; his sisters, Jahnaja "Kueen" Martin and SuJuan Shotwell; his brother, Maurkel "Rick" Gills; nephews, Chanzelor Walker and Lavontae Harris; and his niece, Cali Harris.

He is also lovingly remembered by his grandmothers, Minnie Cobbins and Barbara Shotwell; his godfather, Jerome Davis; his godsister, Shamiah Hines; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, and beloved friends.

Daviyae shared a special bond with his best friends, Jaezeon Johnson and Antwon Lewis, who affectionately called each other "brudda." His memory will continue to live on through all who knew and loved him.

Preceding him in death are his grandfathers, Luster V. Davis and Derrek Bernard; his uncle, Erick Shotwell; and his special aunt, Cheresse Cobbins.
