Denise Diane Smith

Denise Diane Smith, 64 of Chicago II, passed away on April 2,2026.

Denise, was born November 26, 1961 in Chicago Illinois to William C.

Smith and Bessie Mae Smith. Denise grew up on the north-side of Chicago in Old Town. (Neicy) as we called her, had a happy childhood full of love and rooted in family. She attended Saint Michael's grade school & High school where she flourished academically and was a member of various social clubs at school. Denise was a band member and a good clarinet player and was part of the cheerleading squad.

She was a proud warrior, Go blue and gold! She later went to college and earned her associates degree.

Denise, worked as an assistant for George Manierre elementary school-PS for over 27 years, prior to that she worked for CTA and Bloomingdale's fashion store. She loved to step. She moved through the Chicago scene of stepping with her Best friend, brothers and cousins showing off her skills. She truly loved it.

Little known secret... Neicy could absolutely sing. Growing up you could find her in the basement on Schiller St singing her heart out and playing music.

Denise loved the Lord! A foundation instilled in her from childhood.

She was a mother that would go above and beyond for her only child

Geno Rhodes who she truly loved.

Denise is survived by her son Geno Rhodes. Her sister Margarita Thomas, Brothers Lorenzo "Buckeye" Smith and Sidney "Sinbad" Smith, her nieces and nephews as well as a host of cousins and friends that loved her dearly.

Denise was preceded in death by her parents William C and Bessie Smith, and her brother William "Steel Bill" Smith Junior.
