Edward Lee Grant

Edward Lee Grant was born on November 26, 1958, in Marked Tree, AR, to Lillie Mae and Leroy Grant Sr. He spent his early years in Marked Tree, and in 1969 the family moved to Chicago, IL. Edward enjoyed his childhood surrounded by the love of his many siblings. He attended elementary school at Michael Faraday. He later attended Marshall Metropolitan High School, where he developed into a bright and confident young man.

Edward, often referred to as "Ed Lee," was an ambitious young adult with an unwavering passion for comedy. He possessed a lively spirit that drew people in, making him a beloved figure among friends and family. Professionally, he navigated the worlds of hospitality and advertising, where his creativity and charisma shone brightly.

Ed made the most of his downtime by spending quality moments with his family. Barbecue cookouts were a favorite pastime, tantalizing everyone with his infectious laughter. Music played a significant role in his life, with "Stepping in the Name of Love" being a particular favorite a song that perfectly captured his joyful essence and love for dancing. Ed was also known for his impeccable sense of style. He had a sharp dressing aesthetic, often turning heads with his well-tai-lored outfits that reflected both confidence and flair. His love for nice cars further complemented his image, and he often shared stories of his dream rides with enthusiasm.

Overall, Edward was the kind of person who brought warmth and humor into the lives of those around him, living fully and unapologetically in every moment. Edward accepted Jesus Christ as his LORD and Savior and during his final moments he called on the name of Jesus saying Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. Edward passed away on July 6, 2026, at the age of 68, and was welcomed into heaven. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lillie Mac and Leroy Grant, as well as his siblings: J.C. Dobbins, Willie B. Dancy, Gladys Howze, Pearl James, Ivory Grant, Alfonzo Grant, Carolyn Grant, and June E. 

Edward is survived by his two daughters, Chenika Collins-Ste-phens (Eric) and Conessia Gipson-Jones (Manuel); six grand-children, Talahia Lake, Tanaiya Lake, Khadijah Robinson, Kari Jones, Sahara Jones, and Matai Jones; one great-grand-child, Egypt Bolen; one brother, Leroy Grant Jr.; and four sis-ters, Jean Grant, Janet Jones (Jerry), Essie Doss (Roger), and Brenda Grant (Rickev). He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews who will celebrate his life.
