Ethel Lee Polk

March 28, 1924 — May 31, 2026

Chicago

Mother Ethel Lee Polk was born on March 28, 1924, in Jackson, Mississippi. On May 31, 2026, at the age of 102, she peacefully transitioned from labor to reward, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, service, and devotion to God.

Mother Polk was a faithful and devoted member of Union Missionary Baptist Church for many years. She served faithfully on the Mother Board and in the Mission Ministry, dedicating her life to serving God and caring for others. Her faith was evident in the way she lived each day. She was a woman of prayer who could always be found seeking the Lord. She prayed before church services, participated in prayer groups, attended Bible study and Sunday School, and remained committed to her walk with Christ throughout her life.

Mother Polk had a heart for people and a special love for the sick and shut-in. Even in her later years, she often expressed her desire to continue visiting and encouraging those who were unable to leave their homes. Caring for others was not simply something she did-it was who she was. She was known for her kindness, compassion, and willingness to help anyone in need.

She also expressed her love through cooking and fellowship. Family and friends knew her as an excellent cook, and she was especially known for ner greens, which were enjoyed by many over the years. She found joy in gathering with loved ones, sharing meals, and creating lasting memories.

Mother Polk loved worship and cherished hearing the church choir sing. One of her favorite songs was *"I'm on the Battlefield for My Lord,"* a song that reflected the faithful life she lived. She remained steadfast in her commitment to Christ and served as a living testimony of God's goodness and grace for more than a century.

Mother Polk was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, and her beloved children, Jean Polk, Frank Polk and Marlene "Whoopi" Polk.

She leaves to cherish her memory a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, extended family members, church family, and countless friends whose lives were touched by her love, prayers, wisdom, and unwavering faith.

Mother Ethel Lee Polk lived a remarkable 102 years and often declared, "God has been good to me." Her life stands as a testimony to that truth. While she will be deeply missed, her legacy of faith, service, prayer, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
