Chicago

Larry Darnell Underwood, affectionately known as "Law," was born on July 14, 1954, in Dora, Alabama, to Curtis and Mary Underwood. On June 28, 2026, Larry peacefully transitioned, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and devotion to his family.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Mary Underwood; his beloved son, Aaron Underwood; and his sister, Susan "Suzie" Johnson.

At an early age, Larry moved to Chicago, Illinois, where he was educated in the Chicago Public School system. Following graduation, he proudly answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in 1972. That same year, he married the love of his life, Zenaida Underwood. Together they built a loving home and were blessed with five children: Aaron, Chantay, Carmelita, La Traina, and Larry Naggi Underwood. Later in life, Larry's family continued to grow, and he was blessed with five additional children.

Larry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose greatest joy was his family. He was a source of strength, wisdom, and unwavering support, always placing the needs of those he loved before his own. Whether sharing stories, offering guidance, or simply spending time with his loved ones, Larry treasured every moment and took immense pride in watching his family flourish through the generations.

Larry leaves to cherish his precious memory his beloved wife of over five decades, Zenaida Underwood; his loving children, Chantay Underwood, Carmelita Underwood, La Traina Underwood, Larry Naggi Underwood, Curtis Underwood, Dontay Underwood, Larry Jr: Underwood, and Larrisha Underwood; 20 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren, all of whom will forever carry his love and legacy in their hearts.

He is also survived by his loving uncle, Jesse Shivers; his brothers, Lepolean (Brenda) Redmond and Stanley Robinson; his sisters, Patricia (Kevin) Keller and Valerie Wilford; his cherished friend, Jacqueline Walker; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.

Larry's life was a testament to love, strength, resilience, and unwavering dedication to his family. His warm spirit, kind heart, and the countless lives he touched will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy of love and family will endure for generations to come.
