Mattie Pearl Fitch, affectionately known as "Spit Fire," was born
on August 20, 1935, to Minnie Pearl Hudson and Cleveland Moseley, both of whom preceded her in death. She was raised in Noxapater, Mississippi, by her devoted grandparents, Pearlie Mae and Andrew Your, where she developed a strong foundation of faith, resilience, and character. She later married Will Fitch, moved to Arkansas, and welcomed her eldest son, Will Jr., before eventually settling in Chicago.
Mattie accepted Christ early in life and attended Holy Family Lutheran Church after relocating to Chicago. Around 1997, she became one of Jehovah's Witnesses and faithfully served until 2014. Her love for God remained steadfast and guided her throughout her life. Known for her bold, vibrant spirit, Mattie was loving, funny, and unapologetically honest—a true light in any room. She gave freely to others, carried herself with elegance and pride, and found joy in dancing, music, cooking, traveling, and spending time with family.
Family was Mattie's greatest pride and accomplishment. She cherished time spent with loved ones across the country, especially visiting family in California and Alabama, and created lasting memories filled with laughter and love. She leaves to honor her legacy her children:
Will, James, Anthony (Gertrude), Calvin, Nikia, and Barbara; a host of grandchildren; her sisters, Arnita Brown and Gladys Page; along with many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
On April 21, 2026, Mattie peacefully transitioned, leaving behind a legacy rooted in faith, strength, and unconditional love. She is now reunited in eternal peace with her beloved partner, L.E. "Sonny" Davis; her children, Franklin, Barbara, and Brandon; grandchildren Kevajae, Frank, and Antenisha; nephew James Your; daughter-in-law Sarah Adams.; her brothers, Homer Your Sr. and James "JC" Cox; her sister, Helen Hunter; and other loved ones who preceded her in death.
