Chicago

Mildred Denise Thompson, affectionately known as "Peach," was born on October 12, 1961, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Ellen T. Pickett and Benjamin Pickett. On July 16, 2026, she peacefully entered eternal rest.

Peach was a baptized believer whose life was rooted in faith, love, compassion, and service. She was a faithful member of her church and found strength in God's promises. Her quiet faith, warm spirit, and generous heart were evident to everyone who knew her.

Education was important to Peach, and she took pride in her college years and the knowledge she gained. She believed learning opened doors and encouraged those around her to strive for more. She inspired her children and grandchildren to pursue their goals and never stop growing.

Above all else, Peach was a devoted mother. Raising her children was one of the greatest joys of her life. Her home was filled with love, laughter, guidance, and the aroma of home-cooked meals. She never hesitated to open her heart or her home to someone in need. That love extended beyond her own children when she welcomed two foster daughters, Shari and Zari, into her family. She loved them as her own and provided them with the same care, support, and encouragement she gave every child blessed to call her.

Peach had a gift for making people feel seen, valued, and loved. Whether she was sharing wisdom, cooking a favorite meal, encouraging someone through difficult times, or simply offering a smile, she left a lasting impression on countless lives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ellen T. Pickett and Benjamin Pickett; five sisters; three brothers; and her beloved granddaughter, Sunshine Howard.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory her children, Ellen Howard (Larry Howard), Willie Harrington, and Liquori Thompson (Cory); her foster daughters, Shari and Zari; grandchildren Larry Howard Jr., Khalif Howard, Khalia Howard, Cam Howard, Camyah Howard, Cynciere Harrington, Nazir Harrington, Dion Thompson, and Ja'Ziyah Thompson; brothers Otis Collins (Killer), Ozzie Pickett, Elijah Thomas, and Benjamin Pickett (Louise); sisters Janie Smith and Serentha Pickett; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and dear friends.

Although our hearts are broken, we rejoice knowing that Peach's legacy of faith, unconditional love, generosity, and strength will live on through everyone she touched.
