Sarah Jane Taylor

September 24, 1961 — April 4, 2026

Chicago

Sarah Jane Taylor (Lady T) was born in Chicago, Illinois, on September 24, 1961. She was the oldest of six children born to Bernice Lamar Taylor. Our mother knew Sarah was a special child from the moment she first laid eyes on her. When she brought her home, the first person she introduced her to was Uncle Elbert, who was nine years old at the time. She said, “Elbert, meet my baby girl, Sarah.” From that day forward, Elbert shared a deep love for Sarah and became a lifelong protector and father figure in her life.

Sarah attended Robert A. Waller High School, where she enjoyed music and dance and developed an interest in business management. As the years went on, Sarah showed her love and dedication to her family by gifting us with her hopes and dreams by helping her mother raise her brothers and sisters. She became our second mom who loved, guided us and encouraged us as if we were her own children. Through her care, she helped shape us into the adults we are today.

Around 1989, Sarah accepted the Lord into her life. In church, she worked alongside our late mother, assisting with fundraising events. It was there she became known as our “dessert-making queen.” You could truly taste the love she poured into every cake and pie she made.

Sarah went on to work for Walgreens for over 25 years, where she was known as one of their most dedicated employees. Each year, she encouraged us to contribute to Red Nose Day, showing her generous spirit. She was also known for her festive personality: dressing up for every holiday, wearing colorful wigs and outfits to bring joy and laughter to her coworkers and customers. Concurrently, she later worked at 777 at the front desk, where she enjoyed interacting with both staff and residents, always bringing warmth to those around her.

One of Sarah’s greatest joys was music. She loved listening to a wide variety, and you could often find her snapping her fingers and dancing with the volume and bass turned up high. No matter where she was, even at work, she used music to lift the spirits of everyone around her.

On December 9, 2017, Sarah lost our mother, who was also her best friend. She continued to honor her memory by speaking of her often and sharing cherished moments they had together.

Sarah’s celebration of life began on April 4, 2026, at 1:22 a.m. She was preceded in death by her mother, Bernice Lamar Taylor.

She leaves behind three children: Charles Taylor (Chuck), an artist; Bianca Taylor, who holds a Master’s degree in Special Education and a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, and Terry Williams, who is currently attending Chamberlain Nursing School, working toward his Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Sarah was incredibly proud of her children, whom she considered her greatest life achievements.

She also leaves behind her five siblings: Josie Lorek-Slepawic, Robert Taylor, Nathaniel Taylor, Sherman Taylor, Roshanya Taylor (Chica), and nephew/ God son Prince Christion, along with a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

We will always love our mother, sister, and friend. She will forever remain in our hearts, with cherished memories that will live on for eternity.
