Terri Ann Jenkins

Jan 9, 1953 — Jul 28, 2026

Chicago

Terri A. Jenkins affectionately called "Mama-Girl & TAJ" was the sixth of ten children born January 9, 1953, to the union of Thomas and Emma Jenkins who preceded her in death. Terri married Van Thomas in January of 1978 who also preceded her death.

Terri departed this life early Tuesday morning July 28, 2026. Mama-girl has taken her place in eternity where she joins her mother Emma, father Thomas, brother Ezell, sisters Ledora, Theresa, Doris, Carol, grandson Torre Deshawn Jenkins, other close relatives and friends who have gone on before her.

Terri accepted Christ at an early age and rededicated herself to Christ again later in life. She was an avid reader, loved music, especially Motown, Stevie Wonder was her favorite. She loved singing, writing, and doing crossword puzzles before suffering a stroke on both sides of her brain in October of 2019.

Terri had a sweet loving spirit and loved her family deeply. She also had a strong will and would fight with all that was within her. Her words to her children concerning bullies were "the bigger they are the harder they fall".

When discussing cancer and her desire to fight, she applied that same philosophy, she was determined to fight on her terms in her own way. It was with this strong will and fighting spirit that she took on the fight with cancer at the age of 72. In a short span of time, she defied many of the odds that medical professionals told her she wasn't fit enough to conquer because of her age. After each procedure doctors would marvel at how well she did.

It was with this strong will and fighting spirit that she left this world behind on her own terms and entered eternity to receive the reward that the Lord had waiting just for her.

Terri leaves to cherish her memories, her five loving children; Pastor Jijia Hagler (Bishop Colbert O. Hagler Sr.), Monique Smith (Pastor Paul Smith), Tara, Torre and Kenneth. Fourteen grandchildren; Krystal, Kishon, Colbert Jr, (Dilcia), Jared (Nissa, Terianna, Tonious, Kayla, Precious (Michael), Tarvaris, Branden, Glynda, Torreana, Jermontay, and Torre Deshawn (preceded in death). Nine great grandchildren; Remi, Reina, Kayzen, Kaveh, Antoine, Ashlynn, Larryn, Avarie, and Natalia. Three sisters; Johnnie, Betty, and Rosemary. One brother; Thomas and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
